Archbishop Glenn Davies on a Christian response to refugees Dominic Steele

The Archbishop of Sydney, Dr Glenn Davies, has called for each church in Sydney to adopt and love one of the refugee families that are to come from Syria to Australia.

But how might this be done?

Dr Davies, joined me in the 2CH studio to take talkback callers about how his plan might be rolled out.

Plus the Archbishop and I spoke together to World Vision CEO Tim Costello and Director of International Teams, Fiona Hodge.

The discussion was in response to the Federal Government’s announcement that Australia will take 12,000 refugees from the troubled zone.

Here are a few of the questions that were asked by callers:

  • Do we have Syrian Christians already in our communities that we might be able to learn from, so we can best love these refugees in a way that would be culturally appropriate?

  • We are a trillion dollars in debt.  How much will it cost to house 12,000 refugees?  But can we do more?

  • What response has there been from other denominations/Christian leaders?

  • We can’t all offer a room in our house.  Is there some kind of Anglican toolkit to help us know how we can help?

  • When will the refugees come?
